Review: Slim Timber Rosewood and Walnut card wallets are hip

Leather wallets have a way of becoming huge bulky objects when they're filled with cash, cards, and other objects. Sometimes less is more. Slim Timber has a solution: Their wooden card wallets, available in both Roosewood and in Walnut for just $35.

Both the Slim Timber Rosewood card wallet and Slim Timber Walnut card wallet feature a small leather strip that wraps around the sides, which is also connected to an elastic strap by stitch-work. They're large enough to store up to eight plastic cards, or a combination of your I.D., credit cards, and folded bills. What really makes them stand out though is the wood. The exterior of both the Slim Timber Rosewood card wallet and Slim Timber Walnut card wallet is fantastic. Perhaps the best part is that every time we've pulled out the Slim Timber Rosewood card wallet to pay for food at a restaurant our friends or date noticed and commented about it.

While we wouldn't label either of these wooden card wallets to be flimsy, they do bend slightly when squeezed in the middle from both sides. As such, we wouldn't advocate sitting down with one of them in your back pocket as they may break. Slim Timber does offer a much stronger Walnut wood wallet that can be safely stored in your rear pocket without breaking under your weight.

Although we only used the samples provided by Slim Timber for a month, we took the liberty of heavily using one of the straps to simulate wear and tear. Given enough time, the elastic band will lose a little bit of its elasticity, however it wasn't enough to uncover the top and allow cards to come free. What did happen though was that the glue used on the side where the leather is stitched to the elastic band came free. This didn't have an adverse affect on function, but was just ascetically unappealing. We were able to fix it by applying a small dollop of superglue. A possible solution for Slim Timber would be to use a snap or buckle to help prolong the longevity, as it looks like they do with their Walnut wood wallet.

Our final verdict is that Slim Timber card wallets are hip, but not for everyone. If you're looking for a minimalist and fashionable way to keep your cards and money in order then the Slim Timber Rosewood card wallet will get the job done, and in style too. Just make sure you don't pull on the strap too hard.
