Future owners of the PlayStation VR may be disappointed to learn that it comes bundled with 10mm driver buds. Those wanting to experience virtual reality in the best possible way are going to want to upgrade the audio, and the new RIG 4VR by Plantronics will be your best option. We caught up with Plantronics during Pax East for a first hand look at the RIG 4VR.

"You're not going to get very great audio with the included earbuds of the PlayStation VR," said Kyle Bokariza, product manager for Plantronics. "Our 40mm drivers feature low-frequency resonance chambers for improved bass. The ear cups are vented, and this helps allow ambient noise in. This is important for VR because your eyes are seeing one thing and your body is experiencing another. Ambient noise allows your brain to remember that you're sitting down, so you won't get motion sickness. If you're dropping $400 on a virtual realty headset, why wouldn't you want the best audio experience possible?"

The Plantronics Rig 4VR uses a modular design similar to the Plantronics RIG 500E. The biggest draw to this design is that it's super light-weight, which is really important because you'll also be having the Playstation VR on your head. It features a removable noise-canceling microphone that flips to up mute.

The design actually accommodates up to 98% of the general population's head sizes compared to just 80% of head sizes that competing brand's headsets fit.The modular design also allows players to replace components individually from the Plantronics website, either for aesthetic reasons or if better components are created down the road. This allows you to upgrade your speakers or microphone without having to purchase an entire new headset.

While designed specifically designed for the PlayStation VR, the Plantronics RIG 4VR is a full audio solution for PlayStation 4 thanks to included cables that'll swap out and attach to your wireless controller. That 3.5mm audio connector can also be used with Xbox One, PC and Mac, cell phones, and other mobile or gaming devices. The Plantronics RIG 4VR will be available later this holiday season for $69.99. When you consider how expensive some other gaming headsets can cost, that's a bargain.
