Review: Yogibo 'Max' is the ultimate beanbag

When it comes to playing video games, watching television, or reading a book the furniture that you're relaxing on plays a large factor in the enjoyment of whatever form of media you're consuming. Bean bags may have the stereotype of being just for kids, however, Yogibo is producing high quality beanbags suitable for adults too. Yogibo sent us its new Yogibo Max, and after spending six weeks using it (three weeks indoors and three weeks outdoors) we agree with the company's claim that the Yogibo Max really is the "ultimate 6' bean bag that can be used as a chair, recliner, sofa or bed."

There's actually two different "Max" beanbags produced by Yogibo, the Yogibo Max and Zoola Max. They're both actually the same product, just coming with different covers. The normal Yogibo Max comes with a durable cover made from 89% cotton and 11% spandex, and the Zoola Max features a UV safe cover that's water resistant and is 92% Polyester and 8% spandex. Switching covers to go from inside to outside or wash the cover with your laundry is really easy thanks to a tough zipper. The actual inner beanbag's cover is 92% polyester and 8% spandex. We received the Yogibo Max beanbag plus the additional outdoor cover, which can be ordered separately from the website.

The Yogibo Max is a whopping six feet long, but it'll take up less than four square feet when stored standing up on its end. To use the Yogibo Max as a chair first stand it up, make an indent with your hand, then just fall into it. The Yogibo Max will perfectly adjust to your body's shape. Leaning back will transform it into a recliner, and if you lay the bag completely flat you'll be able to lay down on it as a small bed. Yogibo produces several different accessories for the Yogibo Max, most notably the Yogibo Roll that'll allow you to use the Yogibo Max as a small sofa and a larger cover which will allow you to put two Yogibo Max bean bags together and transform them into a full sized sofa, recliner, or bed.

In the three weeks that we used the Yogibo Max indoors we found ourselves sitting in for long gaming sessions more often than our thousand dollar chair from Jordan's Furniture. It didn't, however, end up trumping our couch, but that was mostly due to a single Yogibo Max not giving adequate room for two adults to spread out at the same time. There was just enough room for two to snuggle, but just barely. If we were using the Yogibo Double that would have been a different story. Our tuxedo cat, who usually resides on the top of our couch, took a keen liking to the Yogibo Max. One of the best features about the product is that the cover is removable and machine washable, allowing us to clean up after all the cat's fur. After washing the cover once a week for three weeks there was no noticeable fade from the turquoise cover.

Our favorite spot for the Yogibo Max was outside on our porch. Unlike the pads on our other patio furniture, the outdoor cover of the Yogibo Max was never soaking wet the day after a rainstorm and it dries quickly in the sun. Lounging in the Yogibo Max is much more comfortable compared to any of our other outdoor chairs. We took the Yogibo with us once to the beach, and many people who walked by stopped to ask where we got it from. Dry sand was easily brushed off, but unfortunately wet sand doesn't really agree with it and the cover needed to be washed after returning home. The Yogibo Max did perform well on grass in our backyard though, making it a decent consideration to take with us to future outdoor events over a typical folding lawn chair. It does, however, take up half the back seat of our sedan or the entire trunk.

Perhaps what we loved best about the Yogibo Max was its versatility. While we haven't had any guests sleep over since we've had it, we could easily see ourselves throwing the Yogibo Max on the floor of our office to transform it into a second bedroom. And unlike a traditional futon the Yogibo Max can be used both indoors as a chair and outdoors to recline in the sun. If you're looking for an extremely comfortable yet inexpensive seating option for your living room, dorm room, porch, or man-cave compared to traditional furniture, then we highly recommend the Yogibo Max. The Yogibo Max is the company's largest single person bean bag and retails for $239. Yogibo also offers a few smaller options which are more portable than the Zoola Max such as the Zoola Pod ($179) and water resistant Zoola Pyramid ($99).
